1] There is a question as I understand as to whether

2] or not this would automatically happen or whether

3] it would be an owner that would submit an

4] application; and I think the intent is that the

5] owner would submit an application asking that the

6] animal come in. Sally Callihan.

7] MS. CALLAHAN: I believe that

8] these are animals that are already recognized with

9] the ISBA which means that their owners would be of

10] agreement that they would be Sables. A similar

11] plan to this it says in the motion "already

12] recognized." This precedent goes back to opening

13] the Lamancha herd book years and years ago. And I

14] believe that Harvey and possibly Sheila could

15] speak to this. That was done just on a visual

16] recognition, and they were entered into the

17] Lamancha herd book, you know, years and years ago.

18] This is a similar proposition.

19] MR. DANIEL CONSIDINE: We're on

20] this motion to accept some animals from the ISBA

21] herd books now. Any other discussion on that

22] motion? Okay. Bryan. Second time, Bryan.

23] MS. BRYAN: So I guess are these

24] animals then have been -- do they have generations

25] of verification behind them? Do we know who these

703

1] animals are?

2] MS. REYNA: They are.

3] MS. BRYAN: They are the animals

4] listed in this booklet we have?

5] MS. BERRY: No.

6] MS. BRYAN: No, they are not,

7] Lelia?

8 ]MR. DANIEL CONSIDINE: You may

9] answer this.

10 ]MS. BERRY: Yes. They may be

11] under there in the Grade section. They're not

12] animals that are in the Purebred and the American

13] section; but they may appear in the Grade section,

14] because the Sable breeders had a different way.

15 ]When they set up a registry, which they had a

16] parallel registry; and some of the animals would

17] qualify in the Grade section of the herd book we

18] have just approved, but wouldn't. And so what

19] their proposal is saying is some of those animals

20] that are in the ISBA registry be allowed into a

21] base herd book, but not past that time who like,

22] for instance, with Lamanchas you had a group that

23] was admitted on their appearance because records

24] had been kept on those animals. Am I not correct,

25] Harvey?

704

1] MR. HARVEY CONSIDINE: Well, not

2] necessarily. They were admitted on the basis of

3] appearance. Marvin Maxwell traveled around

4] California and looked at them --

 5] MS. BERRY: Right. Yes.

6] MR. HARVEY CONSIDINE: -- and if

7] they met the standards.

8] MS. BERRY: Yes. But we're

9 ]talking about these 87 percent percentage which

10] would be in our Grade herd book, but would be

11] allowed as just a one time for that to increase

12] the population. Is that what the proposal is,

 13] Shari?

14] MS. REYNA: Yes. I have something

15] else.

16] MR. DANIEL CONSIDINE: Okay.

17] Reyna again then.

18 ]MS. REYNA: Let's think of the

19] alternative; and this is an important point. If

20 ]this isn't allowed for these initial gene pool to

21] go in there, they will not be able to use their

22] bucks. If they will not be able to use their

23 ]bucks, you have to think they have been tracking

24] these animals for a number of generations.

25] It has been communicated to me that in that

705

1] case they will never be able to meet this

2] standard; and they will end -- they said they will

3] keep their own percentages, you know, because then

4] they're able to use the bucks, but otherwise

5] they're going to end up in our other herd books.

6 ]So I think there is very good practical

7] reason to do this on a one-time basis, and then

8] once they have been accepted all progeny after the

9] herd book is instituted would have to meet our

10] original standard. I hope I'm clear, the

11] four-generation standard.

12] MR. DANIEL CONSIDINE: More from

13] Rowe.

14] DR. DEAN ROWE: Just a point of

15] clarification: This would be upon application?

16] MS. REYNA: Yes.

17] MR. DANIEL CONSIDINE: I think

18] we're all clear on that now then. So let's go to

19] the vote. Those in favor of the motion by Reyna

20] to allow animals from the ISBA herd book will say

21] "yes."

22] BOARD MEMBERS: Yes.

23] MR. DANIEL CONSIDINE: Opposed

24] "no." (None.) Abstentions? Abstention from

25] Patty Dean and from Bryan and Altheide. All

706

1] right. That motion had carried as well. Do we

2] have any other action here on Sables? Campbell.

 3] MS. CAMPBELL: Just a

4] clarification. The applications would go in; but

5] they would basically stay there until there was a

6] herd book, because otherwise they couldn't go

7] anywhere.

8] MS. BERRY: Right.

9] MS. CAMPBELL: So the applications

10] would be submitted and so this would be compiled,

11] and then when the herd book is ready they would be

12] entered. It was a little confusing when you had

13] the 2001 because it's the cutoff and the beginning

14] at the same time, and that's what I was confused

15] about.

16 MR. DANIEL CONSIDINE: I think

17 that's a valid point. There needs to be a

18 reasonable time after the opening of the herd book

19 to take advantage of this opportunity. Okay.

If there is more information on the actions of the board that you would like to read.. go to http://www.adga.org and click on the Annual Meeting.

If we find any more information, it will be added here.

PLEASE read these last portions carefully. Get your sables registered with ISBA and we will get them into the foundation herdbooks. It is only 1.50 to register your animal, and you get a detailed registration form in return. The more animals that are registered and your backgrounds that we are able to document for you, the better for all of us! Especially those of you who were worried about the 3 generation, etc. There are ones out there tnat are at least 87 % that need to go into our foundation stock. Lets be sure we register them all. You will get a letter also in your ADGA NEWS and EVENTS for those of you already in adga with information also. It should be the 2nd Quarter. I look forward to every animal being registered we can and seeing them all go with those already in adga to be transfered into the sable books. Think about folks... The Sable Books... what a wonderful sound that has after all the hard work by everyone!!!!!! Thank you all.

In addition, all the Board of Directors names are mentioned already that have had a part in this historic vote , but below are the names of the ADGA Registration Committee that we owe a big thanks to for working so hard for us this past couple years under the leadership of Lelia Berry. These members are:

Don Masrton, Jr. / Tom Rucker / Nina Schafer/ Ruth McCormick/ Patty Moore/Greta Meyer /Cathy Pindell / Vivian Proctor/ Charlene Rice / Paul Adams /Jennifer Lynn Bice/ Brent Detrich /Alice Orezchowski, and Anita Gilley.

Liasion between The ISBA Proposal Committee for 2003 was Donna Palmer, also Chair of ISBA, Klisse Foster, Co-chair of ISBA, and Gwen Johnson, Sec/Tres. of ISBA. So our thanks to these hard working folks too. There are many others to thank, but this you will find in our history section as we disguss SBA and the beginnings of IBSA. The struggle has been worth it, and as our Chair told us last year, facts speak louder than anything, and they certainly did!

A special thanks to Donna Palmer who worked diligently with Jim Wilson to idenitfy Sables that are within the current Experimental book. This took a lot of time on Donna's part. And dedication. And considering that Donna is primarily a Nubian breeder, and was simply a supporter of Sables, it means even more to us that she took on this enormous task. What she found was collected into a booklet to be distributed to the Board Members of ADGA that helped to show that our cause was a worthwhile one. Thank you again Donna Palmer.

Update: Feburary 14, 2004

It has been announced that Jim Wilson, the main computer operator at ADGA, and who has worked willingly with ISBA and Donna Palmer to obtain the information needed from within the Experimental book, has died. What a loss for ADGA and all of its members. Jim was extremely helpful to ISBA in helping Donna search for those animals that were Sables and confined within the Experimental book. Prior to this, he has been consistantly helpful as he could be in answering questions and obtaining information when asked. Diane Gray and Anita Gilley met Jim at the 1996 convention in Tucson, Arizonia, and came away assured that he would do all he could to help us further our endevor.

Jim Wilson will be sorely missed by all of us in ISBA and ADGA.
